Am I gonna have to check the Super Duper mart for food? Lol.
Seriously though, ways to find food is big. You should show how to set traps and various things. Also you could include a chapter or two about fallout shelters, or just shelters period.

Just follow the link in my signature to the photo's page. You'll find them in there among all the galleries, I probably have some new stuff and may update it later on.

First off, if it is for serious stuff, you want spare gas mask canisters (since chances are you only have your primary and a spare on you and that won't last long), you want to do up the entire thing in copper wire to form a faraday cage. Old microwaves, apparently also form portable faraday cages, so after you strip out the electronics from it, it makes a good case to store some spare electronics or vhf/uhf shortwave/cb, batteries etc.. Getting water barrels is another good thing cause they have a lot of different purpose and are fairly inexpensive. Noodle packs (for the salt and food source for 25 cent, flour, iodized salt like 1dollar for 1 or 2kilos of the stuff?, a 30-06 or 12 guage type shotgun as they are probably the biggest gun calibre that is common, shotuns are useful for scatte and slug eaning getting small game can be made easier, and it is a good self defence weapon, a device with long range stobe such as a PLL the US strobe is also pretty powerful. GPS system, or maps of your area in paper form, a map of all strategic locations in your area. The list goes on and on. The keys however are salt, water, and lard/oil, protein source, multivitamin. the us army modular sleeping bags are nice as are the ECWS systems for layred clothing, they cost less than the commercial variants.. camo tarps and sniper camo is something to look at too, bullet proof vests are fairly night but may need moding for comfort, US army has its stuff, for you guys in the US though you may not be able to wear current issue but it may be legal for you to wear parts of foreign governments like british, Canadian etc.. look into your law, I know up here in Canada it is legal to wear us issue, I just can't have flags, name tags, nd full kit can be questionable, so I wear alternate pants from top. Body armour is not legal to wear up here everywhere. Check your local regs. I'm also sold on, the machete, hand axe, and gurkha blade. A bow/crossbow is also nice especialy if it can handle hand crafted arrows bullets can run out. But if civilization fails, it is really the nuclear threat by nuclear power plant. You'd need to learn how to safely deactivate the plants, and silos, same with various industries ASAP lots of places would need to b safely shut down to avoid catastrophy. things to collect stuff in can be useful too, like plastic jars, a lght pot.
Having ligthers can also be good. ectra supply of fuel, --fire starting devices ones that can be used over like a fire rod chamber, ect... a couple different types of stones, and sticks etc..
For my place I have an small off grid system... that is easily stored indoors, (eventually within my faraday cage) electricity is really only needed for emergency communications so a good high powered HF transmitter is good... there are cheap options for a SDR receiver, the transmitter is what you need to learn to build or find one cheap. Apparently cb radios can be relatively easily converter. Likewise an operational amplifierand a transverter can go a long way.
The scenario will be one of about 3 or 4.
1. civil chaos -- you need to be away for safety reasons - you need high concealment defence and monitoring plus food and water supply. 2. world war non conventional ---- this will be the most difficult to respond to chances are that things got really really bad, having your gas mask and chem suit can only go so far, monitoring the radio bandswill be important, a $10 sdr radio plug and portable antenna can do this hopefully and is easy to fit in with your laptop and other electronics ... an 12/24v inverter to 120 volts and a step up transformer can be of use too to power most anything.
IMO salvaging rv/boat electronics is better power.. because it is DC, and doesn't suffer as much loss, plus dc systems can be used for electric fencing and booby-traps.
Chances are though you will want to get in touch asap with your government, as some form of martial law and draft will likely be instituted like amplify 911 x 1 billion.
note cell phones can be used to locate unless you are inside a faraday cage chances are you will be detected, and if you are chance are you can still be detected unless somewhere like a junk yard, waste disposal site etc..
3. the plague -- you need to avoid contact with everyone, have extra gas mask filters or a rebreather and quarantine suit available.
4. zombies, like the above scenarios only worse.
Fact is here if it isn't 1, good luck.
Modifying an old fridge with copper wire with a scuba tank and regulator if a nuclear attack warning gets out (if the would even tell you) gives a few minute to get into the fridge, which will be ok for up to about an hour with your tank (30 minutes +) since you aren't active. laying the fridge down is better so you can lay down instead of stand. cushioning can also be added. you can also rig it as a safe box by replacing the insulation with Kevlar or the like.

Localization, involving permaculture, herbal and alternative medicine, carpentry, food production, preparation, and preserving, renewable energy, etc.
