postapocalypticearth.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11087948Here are some pics from the Gallery on PAE. I have to say that I think a ak chambered in 5.56 would be one of the best shtf rifles that one could buy. This rifle looks great to me, and I want to try to duplicate it one day. Does anyone know about any ak-101's getting into the US?

If you want a 5.56mm with the reliability of the AK but with the accuracy of the M4 I would have to say hands down its the SCAR light which is sold to the general public. Its what the Special Forces, SOG and Special Forces Detachment (otherwise known as Delta Force) use and swear by, albiet in the 7.62 caliber version or the SCAR Heavy which is due to be available to the general public. The SCAR isn't cheap though, the cheapest I have seen is $1800 but they usually go for $2000+. You could also go with a SIG Commando 556 which is a hybrid between the ak47 and the m16 rifle which was originally developed in the 1980's. It uses a piston rod like the ak so you get it's reliability but has the accuracy of the m16/m4 and uses the 5.56mm round and costs half as much as the SCAR. Hope this helps, I still say that for the money your best bet is the sks-m or paratrooper.

SLR106-31 is 5.56mm and is around $600-$700 and is pretty much exactly whats pictured there. to make it exact would require slight modification.

I have to say I would rather have a Ak than a SCAR. SCAR's just look way to heavy to me and when weight is going to be something you have to worry about just seems like a AK would be better. Thanks poohan for that, I will give you one exalt for that!! Also it would be a lot cheaper to just get a ak, SCAR's are expensive true so you got to take that into consideration as well.

AKs are actually pretty heavy compared to a SCAR or an M4. M4 is about 6 pounds, SCAR is 7, and a standard AK is 10. i would also prefer the AK though because of how simple they are. also hard to beat the price. more bang for your buck.

A AK-74 weighs that much?

should be more specific. AK-47s are around 10 and AK-74s are about the same as a SCAR at 7. just a rough estimate though since theres so many variations of the two.

Yeah I guess but I don't like to be. Not to bad then, I have to say that I would still go with the AK-74 though. I like the look of it and it's cheaper.
